With many teams bringing their first major upgrade of the year to Spain, will we see a change in the order this weekend? Mercedes’ dominance has been shattered by the strong form of Ferrari in recent races and it is currently Ferrari at the top of the standings. Can Mercedes pull back ahead or will Ferrari stay in front?
Hamilton just beats Vettel to pole, by a small gap of 0.051 seconds. It was an impressive effort from the Ferrari driver, whose qualifying almost ended in Q1 with engine issues. But the most incredible performance of the day was from Fernando Alonso who managed to push his car to 7th on the grid.
After losing the lead to Vettel at the start, Hamilton drove a great race and – helped by a clever strategy – took the win. His teammate managed to hold Vettel back for a few laps, helping Hamilton close the gap. With the VSC aiding his attack, Hamilton made the pass on lap 44 and kept ahead until the end.
