Mercedes W08 Launched

February 23, 2017

Mercedes have launched the W08, the car in which they hope to defend their title in. The car is much wider and lower than its predecessor, with the 2017 regulations dramatically changing the appearance of the cars. However, unlike the other cars launched so far, 17% of the components have been carried over from last year.

Another notable difference with the Mercedes is that the fin on the engine cover is much smaller than on the other teams’ cars.

The power unit, given the name M08, has been redesigned to cope with higher mechanical loads as well as for higher reliability, as more time is expected to be spent at full throttle and only four engines are allowed this year. As a result of this, the engine will be heavier than last years, but the new regulations have a higher minimum weight to account for this change.

Mercedes are wary of the threat from the other teams with the rules shake up, but remain confident that they can defend their title for a fourth championship.
