Nico Rosberg beat Hamilton in Mexico to take his fourth win of 2015. Having controlled the whole race, Rosberg now moves to 2nd in the championship, after Vettel crashed out of the race. Bottas secured an excellent third place, whilst home hero Perez made it home in 8th.
On pole position, Rosberg was able to hold Hamilton off at the start and he lead from there. Behind, Vettel and Ricciardo made contact – resulting in a puncture for Vettel. Meanwhile, Alonso suffered from a loss of power and had to retire the car.
Continuing his disappointing race, Vettel then spun at turn 8. Just after this incident, Bottas and Raikkonen made contact once again, but this race it was Raikkonen who came off worst. Damage to his rear suspension meant he was unable to continue.
By lap 51, Rosberg had a lead of 3 seconds over his teammate, Lewis Hamilton. Then, a safety car gave Hamilton the chance to get ahead. Vettel crashed the car at turn 7 and caused significant damage to his Ferrari. At the restart, Hamilton was unable to pass and Rosberg extended his lead to 1.5 seconds. The safety car helped Bottas, who was able to move up into third after overtaking Kvyat. However, for Perez, it ruined his race as everyone else around him pitted but he did not.
So it was Rosberg who took victory, beating Hamilton by almost 2 seconds. Behind was Bottas, Kvyat, Ricciardo, Massa and Hulkenberg. Perez in 8th, with Verstappen and Grosjean completing the top ten
Mercedes
Nico Rosberg P1, Lewis Hamilton P2
Finally, Rosberg was able to convert a pole position into a race win. This weekend was his fourth consecutive pole but he has lost out in the race to Hamilton on the last three occasions. Having lead from the start he was able to keep Hamilton behind, who struggled in the turbulent air and was unable to get close enough. Although the safety car gave Hamilton a chance, a perfect restart for Rosberg made it impossible for Lewis to make the move.
Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel DNF, Kimi Raikkonen DNF
A bitterly disappointing day for Ferrari, the first time neither driver has been classified since Australia 2006. Vettel’s race was ruined on lap 1, when he got a puncture. Pushing hard to catch up, he then lost control and spun at turn 8. Later in the race, he then crashed at turn 7 and was unable to continue in the race. Raikkonen started back in 19th, but was running in the top ten when he collided with Bottas. He suffered a rear suspension failure and was out of the race.
Williams
Valtteri Bottas P3, Felipe Massa P6
After neither car finished in Austin, this race was a brilliant one for Williams. Starting in good positions after a good qualifying, they were optimistic of their chances of a podium. Despite a collision with Raikkonen, Bottas had a strong race and made use of the safety car for a pit stop. He was able to pass Kvyat at the restart to take third. Massa was slowed by traffic during the race but still managed to finish a strong 6th.
Red Bull
Daniil Kvyat P4, Daniel Ricciardo P5
Both drivers went onto the soft tyres during the safety car period but were still unable to hold off the Williams of Valtteri Bottas. Having sustained some damage after his hit with Vettel on the opening lap, Ricciardo was also struggling with that. Nonetheless, 4th and 5th is still a good result considering that they were unsure of how the car would perform on a track with some long straights.
Toro Rosso
Max Verstappen P9, Carlos Sainz P13
Verstappen was strong early on in the race and even ran in 3rd at one point. Unfortunately, they didn’t quite have the pace and lost out near the end of the race. However, 9th is still a good result and he stays second in the championship.
Force India
Nico Hulkenberg P7, Sergio Perez P8
Home hero Perez was running very well in the opening part of the race and a top 5 definitely looked possible. However, the team made a mistake not pitting him during the safety car and he lost ground to those around him in near the end of the race. However, the fans still loved the race and there was a massive cheer as he crossed the line to take 8th.
Sauber
Marcus Ericsson P12, Felipe Nasr DNF
Another tough race for the team, with Nasr unable to finish due to overheating brakes. Ericsson also suffered a similar condition but was able to continue in the race.
Lotus
Romain Grosjean P10, Pastor Maldonado P11
The car seemed to lack pace throughout the race but they were helped out by the safety car in the closing stages of the race. The pair had a great battle for the final point and it was Grosjean who came out on top – beating Maldonado by 0.8 seconds.
McLaren
Jenson Button P14, Fernando Alonso DNF
An issue with the engine meant that Alonso retired from the race on lap 1. The Honda power unit lacked power on the fast straights and Button struggled for pace throughout the race and was able to keep of the Manors only.
Manor
Alexander Rossi P15, Will Stevens P16
Another strong performance from the two drivers and a great battle the whole race. Stevens was ahead initially but the safety car helped Rossi and he was able to pass his teammate in the final laps of the race.
