Returning to Italy, the home of Ferrari, Formula One is heading to the final European race of the 2016 season. A circuit demanding strong power units, Monza will benefit all cars running the Mercedes engines. With the future of the race here uncertain, talks regarding a new contract should be concluded this weekend.
Dominating in qualifying, Hamilton achieves his third consecutive pole position at Monza. With five poles at Monza, he equals Senna’s record at this circuit. He set a time almost half a second quicker than teammate Rosberg, who qualified second. Ferrari had a strong session and will line up on the second row of the grid.
A victory for Rosberg cuts Hamilton’s championship lead to just 2 points. With a terrible start, the championship leader dropped from pole to 6th before reaching the first corner. From there, he managed to fight back to second but was unable to catch the race leader. In a strong race for Ferrari, Vettel finished 3rd and Raikkonen 4th.
