Leading from the start, Vettel wins in Singapore ahead of Ricciardo. Kimi Rakkonen finished strongly with a third place but Hamilton failed to finish the race after a technical issue resulted in loss of power. His teammate, Rosberg, benefitted from this and finished 4th. A great result for Rossi, in his grand prix, finishing 14th and ahead of his teammate.
Vettel began to pull away in the opening laps, building up a lead of 3 seconds after lap 1.Early in the race, Massa and Hulkenberg had a collision, resulting in the first safety car of the race. Hulkenberg was out of the race but Massa continues although later retired from the grand prix.
Hamilton was running in fourth place when he lost power on his car. Initially he kept going but the problem got worse and he had to retire the car.
Just 20 laps later, there was another safety car but this time not for a crash. Instead, it was for a fan who had got onto the track and was walking along the circuit. He soon got off but the safety car had to come out again and Vettel lost his lead he had built up. Many drivers made use of this and took their pit stops in this time.
Running in tenth at the restart, Button attempted to make a move on Maldonado, but lost his front wing in the move and had to pit for a new one. Later in the race, he retired the car due to gearbox issues ending a miserable day for McLaren. Meanwhile, Verstappen and Sainz were flying and made some great overtakes to finish in 8th and 9th. In the closing laps, Verstappen was asked to let his teammate through but refused to do so.
Vettel won the race, but by less than 2 seconds to Ricciardo. Raikkonen finished 3rd ahead of Rosberg and Bottas.
